Chain in a dream
In the gentle folk reading, a chain in a dream stands for connection: link to link, person to person.
Old dream books read the chain in various ways, and the gentler folk belief sees in it the bond between people. Each link is one person or one promise, so a strong chain is read as reliable company and a word that is kept. A thin gold chain around the neck is read as devotion and a keepsake of someone dear. If a link came open in the dream, it is believed only that some obligation has loosened and you are gaining more freedom.
