How to turn PDF pages into images

  1. 1
Choose a PDF; thumbnails of all its pages appear below.
  2. 2
Click the pages you need. If you don't mark any, every page is converted.
  3. 3
Set the Image format (JPG or PNG) and the Quality (resolution).
  4. 4
Press "Convert to images". One page downloads as an image, several come in a ZIP archive.

When you need a picture instead of a document

You want to drop a party invitation into a group chat, where a picture shows up right away and a PDF has to be opened first. You need one chart from an annual report for a slide. PDF to JPG turns the pages of a document into images you can share, print or place in other documents.

All pages or just a few

As soon as you choose a PDF, every page is shown. Click to mark the ones you want and click again to unmark them; a line under the options tells you how many are selected. Mark nothing and the whole document is converted. Images are named after the document plus the page number, such as "report-page-3.jpg". A single image downloads directly; several are packed into one ZIP archive.

JPG or PNG

JPG gives smaller files and suits pages with photos and anything you plan to share. PNG loses nothing when saving, so text, lines, tables and drawings come out crisper – at the cost of larger files.

Three resolution levels

  • Normal – 96 dpi: for screens and social media. An A4 page is about 794 × 1123 pixels.
  • High – 150 dpi: the recommended choice, about 1240 × 1754 pixels; small print stays readable when you zoom in.
  • Very high – 300 dpi: for printing, about 2480 × 3508 pixels, with larger files.

The document stays on your device

Your browser draws the pages, so the PDF is not uploaded and the tool is fine for confidential papers. With hundreds of pages at 300 dpi the job can take a while, so mark only what you need. A password-protected PDF has to go through Unlock PDF first. If you only want the words, use PDF to text.

Frequently asked questions

I only need page three. Do I have to convert the whole document?
No. Click just that page and you get a single image, with no ZIP archive.
How are the images named?
After the PDF plus the page number, for example "document-page-1.jpg". The ZIP archive is named after the document with "-images" added.
How many pixels does an image have?
It depends on the resolution. An A4 page is about 794 × 1123 pixels at 96 dpi, 1240 × 1754 at 150 dpi and 2480 × 3508 at 300 dpi.
What should I pick for the sharpest text?
PNG and 300 dpi. The files are larger, but the edges of the letters are cleanest.
Is my PDF sent over the internet?
No. The pages are turned into images in your browser.
