A document only the right person can open
Sometimes you send something no outsider should read: a hospital discharge letter for your doctor, a loan agreement for a co-signer, a class list with grades. Protect PDF encrypts the document so that it opens only for someone who knows the password.
What the password can be
It must be at least 4 and at most 100 characters long. You type it twice, and the tool will not start if the two entries differ. Longer and less obvious means harder to guess. Give it to the recipient another way – by phone or text – not in the same email as the document.
What the tool does
The PDF is encrypted with AES-256. From then on, a PDF reader asks for your password every time the file is opened.
If you tick the option that prevents editing and copying, a person who opens the file with the password can read and print it, but cannot change the content or copy text out of it. PDF readers are what enforce this, so treat it as an extra; the real lock is the password to open.
No way to recover it
SnoopyWap does not keep your password, so it cannot remind you of it. Forget it and you can no longer open the file. Keep the password, and keep an unlocked copy if the document matters.
Where the file and password go
Encryption runs on the server. The file and password are sent over an encrypted connection, used only for processing and deleted right away. The limit is 95 MB.
A PDF that already has a password must go through Unlock PDF first; that tool also removes this password later. Do any Compress PDF or Watermark work before locking.
